Steps to Sew Lined Curtains

1. Measure Your Window

  • Measure the height and width of your window.
  • Add 6 inches to the width (3 inches on each side for the hem).
  • Add 10 inches to the height (for the top and bottom hems).
  • Measure the lining fabric the same way, but reduce the width by 2 inches.

2. Cut the Fabric

  • Cut the outer fabric and lining fabric to your required dimensions.
  • Double-check your measurements before cutting to avoid mistakes.

3. Hem the Lining Fabric

  • Fold the sides of the lining fabric ½ inch inward and iron flat.
  • Fold again by ½ inch and sew along the edges.
  • Repeat this for the top and bottom edges of the lining.

4. Join the Curtain Fabric and Lining

  • Place the outer fabric face up and lay the lining fabric on top, with the right side facing down.
  • Align the top edges and pin them in place.
  • Sew along the top edge, leaving about a ½-inch seam allowance.

5. Sew the Sides

  • Turn the fabrics so the right sides are now facing out.
  • Fold and pin the curtain sides by 1 inch, making sure the lining is centered.
  • Sew along both sides to create neat edges.

6. Hem the Bottom

  • Fold the bottom of the curtain 3 inches, then iron it.
  • Fold again by 3 inches and pin it in place.
  • Sew the bottom hem to finish the curtain.

7. Attach to a Curtain Rod

  • Use curtain rings or slide the curtain rod through the top hem, depending on your preference.
  • Hang the curtains and enjoy your work!
