Anita Pallenberg - Remembering A True Style Icon

A true bohemian spiritAnita Pallenberg - Remembering A True Style Icon

Anita Pallenberg passed away in the early hours of June 13, 2017, at her home in West Sussex, England. This is truly a time of mourning for those of us in the fashion world – this German-Italian actress was a true style icon – and perhaps the most famous fashion “It Girl” of the 1970s and 1980s.

While much has been written about Anita Pallenberg and her influence on the Rolling Stones – she was involved romantically with both Brian Jones and Keith Richards, with whom she had three children – less has been written about her influence on fashion at large.

But at Zaza of Canada, we truly loved Anita – and though she’s gone, her fashion sense, personal style, and bad-girl attitude still inspire us! Let’s take a look at what made Anita such a unique style icon.

A true bohemian spirit!

Anita Pallenberg invented the so-called “BoHo Deluxe” style. By mixing “low-class” items like low-slung jeans, miniskirts, animals prints, floppy hats, and accessories like chain belts and thigh-high boots with traditionally “high fashion” items such as furs, feathers, and expensive jewelry, she created a style and a look that was truly her own.

Perhaps the most intriguing thing about Anita Pallenberg’s fashion sense was the casual air with which she blended her different styles and pieces. She always seemed to just “throw something on” – and no matter how disparate the patterns, pieces, and materials she wore may have been, her entire outfit always worked.
Anita Pallenberg didn’t just wear clothes – she gave them a story, punctuated by her own life of drug addiction, romantic flings with rock superstars, and devil-may-care attitude. And for that reasons, she’s not just a pioneer of BoHo chic – she’s a style icon, the likes of which we may never see again.

So from the team at Zaza of Canada, thank you, Anita. We loved being inspired by you – and we hope that you’ve found the peace that you deserve.
