First, measure your shoulders: Do this from one tip of the shoulder to the other. Doing this alone can be stressful, so if you have another person around, all the better.

Measure your bust: Stand up straight and measure from the fullest part of one bust to the other, wrapping the tape around back till you get to the other bust. Make sure to not squish your bust in the process.

Measure your waist: Stand up straight, don't tuck your tummy in, and don't slouch either. Measure from below your rib cage and go round back till you get to where you started.

Measure your hips: You have to measure from the fullest part of your buttocks to get the right measurements. Go from one point of your hips, covering the fullest parts of your buttocks and go round till you're back where you started.

Now that you know how to determine your body type, there are ways you can dress to fit your body type.

If the upper part of your body has the most weight in your body, that means you have the apple shaped body, for this body type, you have to avoid dresses that would hug your figure, skinny jeans are a no-no too. You should wear V necked dresses or blouses, wear flared or palazzo trousers, wear loose tops, you could also wear patterned blouses or jackets.

If you have an hourglass figure, that means your body is balanced in the right proportions. However, you should wear outfits that would clinch at your waist. High-waisted skirts and jeans would make the perfect statement. If you're wearing a loose dress, wear a belt at the waist to highlight your figure. Definitely, wear body hugs. Your body type has makes it possible for you to unapologetically rock them.


When your butts and thighs are bigger than the rest of your body, you're said to have a pear shape. Whatever you wear should highlight the lower part of your body, the right clothes should make you look like you have an hourglass shape. Wear skinny jeans and loose tops, wear crop tops, wear A-line skirts, high waisted skirts and jeans would work too. Just make sure the blouse is a loose one.

There is a cliché saying that goes; "the beauty of an outfit depends on the wearer". So knowing what fits your body type enhances the beauty of both the outfit and you, the wearer.
